Michael G. Rider was born February 18, 1797, perhaps in Dauphin Co., PA, to Johannes and Maria Reiter. He had two brothers, Samuel and William, who moved to Centre Co., PA, with him. He married Barbara Krider of Lebanon Twsp., Lancaster Co., PA. They had the following children: Catharine, Nancy, John, Barbara, Mathais, and Ellen. Michael died January 30, 1881 in Gatesburg, Centre Co., PA.

Their daughter, Nancy Rider, was born August 13, 1830, at the Rider Farm, Gatesburg, Centre Co., PA. She married Samuel Musser on December 10, 1854, at the Rider Farm, Gatesburg, Centre Co., PA. Nancy died December 10, 1914 at the Houser Residence in Baileyville, Huntingdon Co., PA.
