Alfalfa

Alfalfa seed sprouts are very good for your health.  However, there are exceptions, according to Dr. William Campbell Douglass, writing in Second Opinion.

In the June 1997 article, he reports that the amino acid, L-canavine should not be injested in large amounts. The reason is that the imune dificiency disease, Lupus, as well as arthritis, and cancer are agravited by them and can make conditions worst.

He further points out that it can reinforce anemia, B6 deficiency, and cause the spleen to become enlarged.

The mechanism is one of parallism.   That is, one of the enzyme systems in the body that use an amino acid that generates that activates anemia, lupus, and spleen enlargement, as well as B6 deficiency is similar in structure to L-canavine that is found in alfalfa.  This can wreak all sorts of problems in persons with the dysfunctions just mention as well as cause even more problems with cancer, arthritis, and immune diseases.

What to do: eat sparingly of alfalfa for the first set of problesm, and avoid altogether for the second set of problems.

Our advice:  Be on the safe side and avoid alfalfa altogether if you have any of the above problems.
