Drug Reactions Kill Thousands

The leading cause of death in decending order in the U. S. is:

  1. Heart Disease
  2. Cancer
  3. Lung disease
  4. Strokes
  5. Accidents

The sixth leading cause of death is Drug Reactions.  More than 100,000 Americans are killed yearly from negative reactions to over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and prescription medications.

Another 2.1 million are seriously injured every year than most people ever realized, researcher scientists say.

The cause of these fatal reactions does not include prescription errors or drug abuse. Bruce H. Pomeranz, chief investigator and neuroscience professor stated, "We're not saying, 'Don't take drugs.'" The University of Toronto professor contends "But what we're arguing is that there should be increased awareness also of side effects."

The press release said:

"The harm may range from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic to stomach bleeding from frequent doses of aspirin."
