Green Tea

A polyphenol, such as vitamin E, has antioxidant properties. This means it scavenges free radicals which cause damage to cellular structures if not removed fast and efficient and repair made.

Green Tea is a polyphenol and its polyphenols are known as catechins. They are potent antioxidants that go far beyond just neutralizing strong oxidants (free radicals).

Cancer

New findings point out that green tea may be especially protective against the ravages of lung cancer in present as well as former smokers. This is important, because it has now been shown that former smokers are more at risk for developing lung cancer than previously thought. Green tea catechins protect against cancer in the following manner:

  • Help mitigate ultraviolet and ionizing radiation effects.

  • They reduce carcinogenic activity from binding to the DNA of cells.

  • Assist in protecting from free-radical damage of DNA.

  • Tends to null and void nitrosamines (found in food stuffs or cooking with high heat, as in frying of fats, charcoal broiling, etc.) and aflatoxin. Asperilligus fungi produces one of the most powerful carcinogens known to mankind, aflatoxins. Peanuts are a favorite of Asperilligus fungi. To avoid this contamination, they are carefully inspected and a grain fumigant, such as methyl bromide--the best for this, is used in topsoil and grains.

The National Toxicology Program says a number of African countries have four times as much stomach cancer than the U.S. because they do not use grain fumigants. Methyl Bromide will be banned from produc- tion in 2001, according to the EPA rulling published in 1993. This has the potential for reduced world food production and the creation of famines. Also, we can expect an increase in stomach cancer as well as others. Our suggestion: start on Green Tea Extract now.

  • They can reduced cancers induced by bacteria on DNA strains.

  • They can work in the intestines, lungs, and liver with dietary antioxidants and enzymes present to inactivate certain cancer causing substances that before they damage the DNA molecule.

Blood Sugar and Weight Loss

Amylase is the enzyme required by the body to digest starch into its component parts, namely, simple sugars. These then elicit a response from insulin to drive it into the cells to burned to carbon dioxide, water, and energy.

In a diabetic or diabetic prone people, and some overweight persons, there is an exgerrated insulin response such that more fat is layed down in the body in order to try to burn the simple sugars efficiently and effectively with this excess insulin--it has to be delt with by the body. This can lead to high blood sugar and weight gain when more insulin is required to reduce the sugar.

The catechin polyphenols of green tea have been shown to inhibite starch degradation with amylase by 87%. It has also been shown in a study that glucose and insulin were reduced when green tea extract was present in the diet. An amimal study demonstrated a loss of body fat from green tea supplementation.

In order to get these type of responses we are talking about, you need to ingest 5 - 10 cups of green tea daily at intervals in order to receive only 200 mg of catechin polyphenols. The better solution is to take the extract in capsules that has at least 200 mgs green tea catechin polyphenols per capsule. For weight management, in a balanced diet, we suggest two - three capsules prior to meals.

If you are a diabetic, you would want to first check with your physician, and inform him of these latest findings. Then, monitor your sugar several times a day or as your doctor suggests when using green tea extract to reduce the amount of sugar not controlled by your diet or medicine. If you have a favorable positive response, then, under physician's orders, you reduce your medication per those orders.

Green Tea Can Also Do....

  • Can kill bacteria. Effective in reducing the bacterial risk of food poisoning. The orient uses it to suppress halitosis, ammonia, trimethylamine, and bad bread odors.

  • Assists in the growth of bifidobacteria. This is the "good" kind found in the intestines. This bacteria prevents the overgrowth of E.Coli and Clostridia.

  • They are used to improve the clinical picture of a kidney that has suffered uremic toxins.

  • Green tea has been shown to be effective agains some strains of stap that no longer response to antibiotics.

  • Green tea is also very good for viral hepatitis including other viruses. Those patients with too much iron in their livers have been shown to benefit by the extract to reduce the free radical damage associated from high iron levels that may be concurrent with hepatitis C and B viruses. The free radicals, if not controled or sequestered, can cause cirrhosis of the liver.
