The test bank questions are generally quotes or near-quotes from the text. In selecting questions for your exams, I attempt to hand-pick topics I remember discussing in class during my lectures. Therefore, you should review your lecture notes as well as carefully reading the chapters. Concentrate on topics covered in class, but do not totally exclude other areas.

I do not try to make the exams tricky, but please read each question carefully. Watch out for those little, insignificant words that can completely change the meaning of a question (i.e., no, never, and, but, always, etc.)

When taking a multiple choice test, read ALL possible answers before selecting the one BEST answer. If any part of an answer is false, the entire answer is false, or incorrect. If more than one selection could be correct, look for an option such as "all of the above" or "both a and c." Do not simply choose the first "correct" answer you come to.

Please think carefully before changing an answer on a True/False or Multiple Choice test. If you are not absolutely sure that you bubbled an answer other than the one you intended, you may wish to stick with your first instinct. I have often regretted changing a "correct" instinctive choice.

Finally, I have been known to select questions that give "clues" to other questions on the exam. If you are unsure of an answer, give it your best guess, then lightly pencil a tick mark beside the question on the exam papers as a reminder to look at it again. (Be sure to erase ticks on scantrons before turning in your papers.) After you complete the test, check to make sure you have answered all questions. (Blank questions are just as wrong as incorrect guesses, and have no chance of being correct!) Look for "clues" to any questions you marked to go back to.

Please see the Assignments page for the date and time of your exams. I will be posting specific information about each exam below - number of questions, total points available (I always have some extra credit on exams), etc. You must bring a scantron (#882-E), a calculator, a #2 pencil, and a good eraser with you. If you need to erase on your scantron, be sure to do so thoroughly.

The following are some areas you might want to pay particular attention to as you prepare for the exam.

  Definitions / Key Terms
  Italicized words & surrounding text
  Figures presented in lecture
  Key concepts presented in lecture

Good luck. Study hard, and DON'T panic! This is simply a written exercise covering what we have been discussing in class.

Please feel free to e-mail me with comments or questions. I will not be holding office hours during finals week, except by appointment.
